The Moonlight Marketer

Jayme Pretzloff on an outdoor roof top in Minneapolis

The beauty of owning your own business is that you are allowed to dream big, and there is nobody better at helping execute big dreams than our Director of Marketing, Jayme Pretzloff. The only thing consistent in business is evolution, and in the ever-changing world of marketing, we rely on Jayme to ensure that we remain cutting edge and ahead of the curve. His commitment to his profession is unfailing, and you’ll often find this moonlight marketer working into the wee hours of the night. As the head of our in-house marketing team, Jayme has dutifully overseen the transformation of the Wixon Jewelers brand over the past eight years. Joined by our Art Director, Blake, this dynamic duo is responsible for writing, designing and creating all of our advertisements, content and marketing. When it comes to the secrets behind our brand, more often than not, Jayme is the man with the plan–with a whiskey in hand.

How has marketing changed since school?

College was ten iPhone versions ago, Instagram hadn’t even been thought up and Blockbuster video was still a thing. It’s amazing how much the business and the marketing landscape changes each year, let alone ten! Today, marketing is so much more diverse and segmented; it moves at a mile a minute. It’s more important than ever to know where your audience spends their time so you’re not wasting advertising dollars on Friendster and MySpace.

What do you do when you hit a creative roadblock?

I stole this from Steve Jobs, and it sounds overly simple, but just going for a walk helps open up your mind and allows ideas to form naturally. Research shows that walking is the best way to trigger cooperation between the two modes of the brain and unleash your most creative ideas. So when I hit a roadblock at work, I’ll go for a little walk to clear my head. When I’m at home? Bourbon.

You’ve always been one of the best dressed amongst our team… what’s your secret?

My favorite local spot is Hammermade; my guy Will Horton at their Galleria location always makes me look dapper. Their shirts are versatile and tailor-fit with a length that allows you to wear them tucked in at the office or untucked for a night on the town. They have a veritable pallet of exciting colors and designs with details that add a subtle flair to the shirts.

As our most eligible bachelor… what does your dating app profile say?

“If you’re looking for a nice boy, come date my son. I will make you tacos.” – My Mother. Surprisingly enough, dating apps just aren’t for me. I guess what I’m saying is that I’d expect my mom to create one for me before I’d ever write one myself. I’d rather meet Mrs. Right when I’m out and about enjoying something I love to do. Call me Old Fashioned, but I’d rather pour one and start a conversation in person.

You’re a self-proclaimed Apple geek, so why no Apple Watch?

I actually owned one but I found that I never really used it. I’m more of a Rolex guy myself; I already have to upgrade my phone every year, and I prefer my timepieces to have a shelf life longer than a year. Don’t get me wrong, I love technology and I’m obsessed with the latest gadgets… I just don’t want them anywhere near my wrist.
