Timepiece Care

Luxury Swiss timepieces are amazingly intricate and complex instruments, requiring regular care and service to ensure they continue functioning properly and looking their finest. Cleaning, regular service and a complete knowledge of your timepiece’s capabilities and limitations all contribute to prolonging its lifespan and timekeeping ability. Especially complex watches will need a higher level of care to ensure all functions and complications maintain an optimal level of operation.

To prolong the life and function of your timepieces, we recommend you:

  • Have your watch professionally serviced every two to three years for a mechanical watch and every three to four years for a quartz watch.
  • Avoid direct contact with cosmetic or household chemicals, particularly if your watch has a leather band. These chemicals can damage the band, so it’s best to let them dry before wearing your watch.
  • Fully understand your watch’s capabilities. Certain aspects like water resistance will vary from one timepiece to the other and only by understanding your watch will you be best prepared to care for it. Consult your watch’s manual for a complete description of its functionality.
  • Regularly clean your watch with a soft cloth, gently wiping the band and case to remove dirt, dust and sweat. You can also soak certain watches in soap and water to loosen any set-in dirt.
  • Do not expose your watch to sunlight for prolonged periods of time. This can both fade the watch’s color and shorten its battery life.
  • Keep your watch box and use it for proper storage. When you’re not wearing your watch, it’s best to store it in its original box which is typically designed to protect the watch and preserve its condition.
  • Visit a watchmaker if you need to open your watch. Opening the timepiece can expose its interior to dust and other particles that can disrupt the movement and other functional components.
