1962 Rolex Submariner [Sold]

It’s always fun to imagine the stories a vintage watch could tell, especially in this case – a 1962 small-crown Submariner Ref. 5508 with awesome patina on the gilt dial and hands and a ghosting bezel was clearly used as intended!

The term “gilt dial” does not refer to the patina some of the lume plots and hands can develop, it actually refers to the color of the dial printing itself – it’s gold! The Ref. 5508 were also “glossy” dials meaning that they had a lacquer finish as a final step. This lacquer ages in many different ways, and this is a great example, as much of the original material has been lost.
