Jewelry at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards

Hollywood’s 2016 awards season started off with a bang at the 73rd annual Golden Globes. Streamlined silhouettes and bold jewel-tones ruled the red carpet dresses, but statement necklaces took center stage. Not to be outdone by the glitz and glamour of over-the-top diamond jewelry, many of this year’s looks balanced the bold gowns with fabulous color gemstones. Here are some of our favorite trends from this year:
Diamond Collars
A glittering Chopard collar gives a classic sophistication to Jennifer Lawrence’s modern, scarlet-red Dior gown. The essence of 1940s Hollywood glamour, Jennifer Lopez amplified her Giambattista Valli gown with 200 carats of Harry Winston diamonds. The modest silhouette is given a fun twist with its bold canary-yellow color and layering of the cascading drop diamond necklace and diamond wreath necklace. Emmy Rossum also dazzled with diamonds in another classic yet modern look. Rossum’s sleek strapless red Armani Privé gown was perfectly accented with an asymmetrical Van Cleef & Arpels diamond collar necklace.

Bohemian Chic
Vintage and bohemian style chokers offered a stunning alternative to the jaw-dropping diamond collars. Leslie Mann was sweet and feminine in her rose colored Monique Lhuillier gown, but it was her accessories that got our attention. With a cascade of opals and tourmalines down her back, the gemstone choker by Irene Neuwirth was just as magnificent coming as it was going. Olivia Wilde wowed with a 70s inspired look. The loose waves of her hair worked beautifully with the sequined Michael Kors gown and matching carnelian and diamond Bulgari Heritage Collection choker. Maura Tierney had an understated elegance with a subdued color-blocked dress, clean makeup and simple top-knot. Tierney elevated her look with a vintage citrine, gold, and black rhodium torque necklace from Fred Leighton.

Show-Stopping Color
Whether classic or ultra unique, over the top color gemstone rings were another favorite this year. Sparkling from head to toe, Julianne Moore looked like she stepped right out of the ocean with her sequined Tom Ford gown and unique Caribbean blue Chopard ring featuring 18.32 carats of Paraiba tourmalines. Sophia Bush was another star to bring back old Hollywood glamour with her classic black Narciso Rodriquez gown. Sleek hair, crimson lips and a perfectly matched Martin Katz ruby cocktail ring completed her look.

Going Green
This may have been the year of the statement necklace, but awe inspiring accessories didn’t stop there. Jamie Alexander made us green with envy in an emerald green Art Deco print gown by Genny and matching Lorraine Schwartz emerald jewels. You couldn’t miss Taraji P Henson’s 107-carat cushion-cut emerald earrings by Kimberly McDonald. Suspended by a shimmering chain of diamonds, these giants were free to dance, giving them a light and playful look despite their size.

Evening Pearls
Pearls are making a comeback as a high fashion trend for all ages. Jane Fonda was keeping it classy in a dramatic Yves Saint Laurent Coutur gown, paired with stunning Chopard pearls. Zendaya accented her tiered brocade Marchesa gown with stunning Yoko London earrings, dripping with Tahitian pearls and black diamonds set in black rhodium. One thing we can say, these aren’t your grandmother’s pearls!

Dramatic Drops
Ultra long drop earrings offered a unique sparkle and movement with a light airy feel. Cate Blanchett was a vision in pale pink with her fringe and lace Givenchy Haute Couture gown and beautifully matching pearl tassel earrings by Tiffany & Co. Saoirse Ronan’s look was young and elegant in a white caped gown by Saint Laurent and delicate diamond Chopard earrings.
