The Luminor Base

Panerai introduced their first Luminor in the 1940s with the goal of creating a reliable watch that could be used for extreme military use. While time has passed, there are still distinctive traits found in each and every Luminor–the large dial size, extremely reliable movements, and their trademarked crown guard. The Luminor’s crown guard on the right serves to protect the winding crown from accidental changes and to ensure the integrity of the timepiece underwater.

The Luminor Base was originally manufactured for the Italian Navy, as they were looking for a watch that was reliable, resilient and could be read easily underwater. These same characteristics have made the Luminor Base a coveted dive watch. The timepiece is approved for depths of up to 300 meters, but is actually tested at 400 meters to ensure its reliability.  This watch is operated by the Panerai OP X mechanical movement, which can be seen through the crystal back on this timepiece on the PAM112, PAM 114, PAM176 and PAM219.

The Left Handed Luminor Base

The Luminor is developed with the distinguishing characteristics found on each Luminor timepiece– the large dial size, extremely reliable movements, and their trademarked crown guard. The PAM219 is the left-handed version of the Luminor Base, with the crown guard is on the left side of the watch. It is specifically designed for left-handers and those who like to wear their watch on the right wrist.
