VIDEO: Rolex Sea-Dweller

One Minute Watch: 2007 Rolex Sea-Dweller (16600T)

One Minute Watch with John Carter

Pre-Owned Rolex Sea-Dweller Ref. 16600T

The Rolex Sea-Dweller showcases similar aesthetics to the Submariner with its highly-legible black dial with luminous hands and markers, unidirectional bezel and date window at three o’clock. At first glance, you may confuse this with a Submariner, until you notice there’s no cyclops lens over the date, indicating this is a Sea-Dweller! In addition to a deeper depth rating of 4,000 feet, the Sea-Dweller is also fitted with a helium escape value on the left side of the 40mm stainless steel case.

The 16600 was released in the late 1980’s and remained in production for 20 years, making it the longest lasting Sea-Dweller reference in the Rolex collection. During its long production run, Rolex changed the lume material from Tritium, to Luminova and finally to SuperLuminova. The “Swiss Made” marking under the six o’clock marker indicates this reference utilizes SuperLuminova.

This particular pre-owned Sea-Dweller model is a 16600T which means it is fitted with solid lugs and solid end links. Dating to 2007, this example is in excellent pre-owned condition and includes its original boxes, manuals, tools and certificate. We acquired this watch from its original owner, and it was very well cared for.

The Rolex Sea-Dweller showcases similar aesthetics to the Submariner, but there are several changes beyond the lack of a cyclops lens. The Sea-Dweller is a professional-grade dive watch with a depth rating of 4,000 feet, and features a slightly thicker case fitted with a helium escape valve. The helium escape value acts as a mechanical exit for helium atoms to exit as the watch resurfaces from extreme depths.

Dating to 2007, this particular model is a 16600T, meaning it is a later production model that is fitted with solid lugs and solid end links. The 16600 was released in the late 1980’s and remained in production for 20 years, making it the longest lasting Sea-Dweller reference in the Rolex collection.
