VIDEO: Rolex GMT-Master 16758
One Minute Watch with John Carter
Pre-Owned Rolex GMT-Master 16758
Originally developed for airline pilots in the 1950s, the Rolex GMT-Master is one of the most iconic watches ever created. A vintage GMT-Master in 18k yellow gold is something special, especially when combined with the “Root Beer” colored dial and bezel!
This example, dating to 1981, is in very good vintage condition. The movement was recently serviced and the original “nipple” dial is in good condition with some hand drag and discoloration around the center. The hands are newer service replacements and the original Jubilee bracelet does show some typical wear as shown in the photos. All in all, a very nice example that can be worn and enjoyed!
Sporty yet elegant, this vintage GMT-Master combines the allure of a Rolex professional model with the elegance of solid yellow gold. While Rolex originally created the GMT-Master as a tool watch for pilots, the increase in international travel created a desire for a dressier version, so Rolex upgraded the stainless steel tool watch into an elegant companion in yellow gold with a Jubilee bracelet.
Dating to 1981, this Ref. 16758 is the yellow gold equivalent of the stainless steel 16750, meaning it also features a quick-set date – a highly useful and practical feature for the busy traveler. The dial displays the coveted pointed indexes with thicker yellow gold surrounds that is often referred to as a “nipple dial”. The chocolate brown dial is original and in good condition with some hand drag and discoloration around the center. The calendar disc also has open sixes and nines, which is a desirable feature for collectors.
