1966 Rolex GMT-Master (Ref. 1675)

One Minute Watch with John Carter

1966 Rolex GMT-Master (Ref. 1675)

The Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 was produced from 1959 until 1980, making it the longest-running GMT-Master in Rolex’s collection. We always love to see a nice gilt dial GMT, and this is a great example. Dating to 1966, it is in excellent vintage condition with a sharp, possibly unpolished case. The bezel has some light fade, and the dial and hands glow briefly under UV then fade as expected for this era. The dial does have some light spotting and the bracelet is a newer service replacement, and the caseback is engraved “R.H.A. KAY”.

Originally developed for airline pilots in the 1950s, the Rolex GMT-Master is one of the most iconic watches ever created. The Ref. 1675 was produced from 1959 until 1980, making it the longest-running GMT-Master in Rolex’s collection.

Dating to 1966, this vintage 1675 is a fantastic example of a gilt dial GMT-Master. These ‘gilt dials’ were glossy dials with gold text, which were later replaced by matte dials in the late 1960’s. The dial and the hands are original, and you’ll notice some spotting on the dial if you catch the light just right. The Tritium filled markers and hands have developed a nice patina over the years, and the iconic “Pepsi” bezel has a slight fade.

The 40mm steel case is in excellent vintage condition with a sharp, possibly unpolished case. The caseback has an engraving from the original owner, adding another neat element of nostalgia to this vintage model.
