The Looks We Love

Jewelry designs this season get a modern and fashionable update featuring a fusion of the old mixed with the new. A few of our favorite new trends involve ornate detail, charismatic colors and multiple gemstones. These are the trends that our fashion and jewelry experts predict are popping up and here to stay.

Double Duo

A double drop silhouette transforms a simple diamond stud into an earring with serious sparkle. The added impact of the extra diamond is only the beginning of what makes this style one to swoon over. Once on, the movement of the drop showcases the diamond to its best advantage. As it sways back and forth, the scintillation and sparkle showcase the unrivaled beauty, fire and brilliance only seen in nature’s most prized gemstone.

Color Change

Considered to be rarer than diamonds, the elusive Alexandrite is one of the most magical and mesmerizing gemstones. A remarkable trait seldom seen in gems, Alexandrite can change color from varying hues of purplish-red to shades of bluish-green. As the saying goes, ”Emerald by day and ruby by night.” The circumstances necessary to form Alexandrite are so uncommon that it will forever be a gem of limited availability, making them special to see and prized to possess.

Color Block

If you can’t get enough color in your collection then color blocking is a style to get behind in a big way! Let your mind wander around the color wheel to create a piece that is uniquely yours. The pairing of different hues creates a jewel juxtaposition that showcases a variety of gems in a wide assortment of different shades. Color blocking creates a beautiful and bold expression of color!

Hide n’ Seek

The small details are what separate the average from the exceptional. Smooth lines, the right angle and its final polish are a few of the key elements that are important to perfect. Once the basics are mastered, a talented designer can embellish and decorate even the most classic design to make it stand above the rest. Diamonds set under the crown, hand-engraved finishes and delicate profile detail are all ways to make a piece distinctly different.

Three’s Company

When it comes to colored gemstone rings, the traditional styles typically feature a single gemstone with pave diamond detail or a center gem with two diamonds for the sides. Three beautifully matched red rubies or vivid blue sapphires are prime examples of the boost of color this style creates! For those that are passionate about color, one of our favorite ways to pump-up the power of the piece is with a ring that features three-of-a-kind.

Pearl Girl

Pearls are making a big splash in the world of fashion as stylists are using them to enhance ensembles from the classically conservative to the outlandishly ornate. Traditional views on them are changing as current designs showcase pearls in styles to suit women of all ages. More people are exploring the power of pearls than ever before. From diva style drop earrings to a bold pearl strand, one thing is for certain; these new designs aren’t your grandmother’s pearls!

Wearable Art

Today’s jewelry designers are pushing the boundaries emphasizing creative expression and design. This trend can be characterized by the use of different finishes, textures, shapes, styles and faceting patterns. It takes an artistic visionary to transform a rough piece of gem material and convert it into wearable art. Unique gems such as fire opal and rutilated quartz have become the muse for artisans around the world, and we are only seeing the beginning of this exciting trend.

Oval Obsession

As of late, I’ve found myself to be obsessed with ovals. Their elongated shape is utterly feminine, and I know I’m not the only female infatuated with this new diamond darling. Much like a round shaped diamond, its brilliance is breathtaking. However, an oval diamond has the added benefit of displaying a larger size then the classic round. A round shape packs more of its carat weight beneath, where as an oval extends across the finger.

This shape is no temporary trend by any means. The first oval diamonds date back to the early 1400’s. Rudimentary and rough, they weren’t the brilliant beauties we now know today. The evolution to today’s modern oval showcases the advances in technology and tools for diamond cutters. However, not all ovals are created equal. An oval cut to proper proportions and polished by a skilled diamond cutter is stunning. However, if the cut is less than ideal this shape will lose light, lack luster and display a dark bow-tie. A bow-tie is an area in the middle of a diamond where the light doesn’t return and darkness is reflected instead as a result of less than ideal proportions.

The oval’s power-packed sparkle speaks for itself in both large and small sizes. It can be set in a simple solitaire or framed with a diamond halo and look gorgeous either way. A three-stone or five-stone ring with oval shapes adds a new twist to a timeless classic as a wedding or anniversary band. This is a shape that spans all generations and genres, making today’s modern oval obsess-worth in a big and fabulous way.

Game Day Glitz

With the Super Bowl almost here, visitors and locals alike are set to celebrate the big game all week long. Who says drop-dead gorgeous and the gridiron can’t go together? Football can be fabulous! The dinners, parties, events and galas before the big game leave plenty of opportunity to put on the glitz in an all-out blitz. Whether you’re dressing up to head downtown or getting decked out for an evening in, here are a few of our favorite pieces that are guaranteed to score a fashion touchdown.

The embodiment of versatility, this fabulous 77 carat diamond necklace leaves plenty of options for any event. The design is beautiful for all necklines and can be styled three different ways. It can be worn as one long 36″ chain, separately as a single 17″ or 19″ chain, or worn with both diamond Riviera’s stacked together. Each diamond is immaculately matched to the next, which leads to a bright and beautiful lasting impression.

Stack it, layer it or let it stand on its own, this bracelet with its rolling diamond design is all about all-encompassing diamonds. Featuring over 12 carats of diamonds, bright larger diamonds are wrapped in a frame of smaller diamonds set in 18k white gold. Diamond bangles are a fashion darling, and with this much sparkle, this bangle makes any outfit a bit more game-day worthy and daring.diamond swirl bangle

Our marquise shape diamonds-by-the-inch design can be interpreted as football fervor at its finest. Almost seven carats of diamonds are separated by a simple chain, making this necklace effortless and easy.

Diamond studs are the perfect accessory for any occasion, but for the Super Bowl, only one size of earring will do: SUPER sized. These large and fabulous diamond studs total 20.15 carats and are guaranteed to steal the show. You can start to appreciate the scale of these super sized studs when compared to three-carat studs (shown right).diamond stud earrings

This piece makes a statement in more ways than one with over 61 carats of perfectly matched round brilliant diamonds that are designed to dazzle. This collar necklace can be showcased dressed up or down. The look could even be paired with a jersey, and worn around town.

It may come as a shock but, yes, men watch football too and we couldn’t forget about them! When game day rolls around, you’ll want to reach for a refined timepiece that can be worn effortlessly. Panerai has become a favorite amongst men because of their bold cases, masculine design and rich history. The Panerai Due is stylish and sporty with a classic oversized case that makes it superb for gameday.

Red Carpet Looks: 2018 Golden Globes

2018 Golden GlobesWithout a doubt, the 2018 Golden Globes was one for the memory books. This year marked a shift for Hollywood. Celebrities united and made a powerful political statement using their fashion as a symbolic representation to align with the recently released Time’s Up initiative. Many attendees, women and men alike, chose to dress in black formal wear to express their belief in the movement. The bright jewel-hued gowns featuring a kaleidoscope of color were gone, and in its place a singular dark hue which left designers searching far and wide to find serious jewels to match the mood. This year jewelry took center stage against the black backdrop. Glamorous green emeralds, enviable earrings and jaw-dropping diamonds become the focus. A power statement was made with powerful pieces.

These are the amazing fashion and jewelry moments we can’t stop talking about from the Globes, and our own similar Wixon pieces that inspired us to search out a red carpet of our own!

Fall Festive

It’s reaching peak week here in Minnesota as our bounty of trees start to display a kaleidoscope of fall colors. Our leaves are showcasing their finest rich golden yellows, fiery oranges and the most breathtaking hue of crimson red. This, for me, is the sweet spot. I’m doing my best to soak in the beauty around me before fall slips away to the icy whiteness of winter. As the temperatures slowly drop, the bright electric colors of my summer wardrobe are being exchanged for richer, warmer and deeper hues. The change in seasons, one to the next, always puts me in a new fashion frame-of-mind. As a jewelry addict, there are pieces I think I can’t possibly live without to complete my seasonal model moment. My wish list runs deep, but right now my must-haves mirror the magic of autumn and embrace all of those fabulous fall feels.

gold leaf diamond bangle braceletThis 18 karat yellow gold bangle says it all. The soft sandblasted finish allows the pop of pave diamonds to provide a pretty punctuation to the alternating leaf design. The pattern is continuous, and the hinge-style bangle makes it effortless and easy to wear.

custom mandarin garnet and diamond yellow gold earringsPumpkin spice and everything nice, these blazing orange mandarin garnet earrings are special both in style and in color. Perfect for the steamy days of summer or the spicy season of fall, this soft gold art deco influenced drop style is the perfect signature piece.

Heavy cable knit sweaters, cozy turtlenecks and stacked scarves are all seasonal fashion staples. Often a simple drop pendant can get lost in all the layers, which is what makes the long length of this yellow and white gold diamond chain a piece with purpose. The diamonds are featured on both the front and back, so as the chain moves the diamonds are continuously on display. Additionally, the extended length lets the wearer wear it as one long piece or doubled up for a shorter drop.

Make a Statement

Style is an outlet for creative self-expression, and for jewelry there is no piece more impactful than a notable statement necklace. These pieces are all about individualism. They are a reflection of one’s personality and presence. The right statement necklace is designed to engage and delight the wearer, and is also near impossible for others to miss.

Statement necklaces have been gaining momentum in the fashion industry over the last several years. Their recent surge in popularity is no surprise, as history often repeats itself in design and inspiration. Some of the earliest forms of jewelry were statement necklaces made of organic material such as shell or bone beads. From there, gold, diamonds and pearls became the choice selection dating back as early as the 16th century and the original “Pearl Girl,” Queen Elizabeth I.

The 20th century provided plenty of glitz and glamour. After all, who can forget Marilyn Monroe and “Talk to me Harry, tell me all about it”? Her iconic statement necklace in Gentleman Prefer Blondes encouraged women for decades to wear big and bold pieces. Another legendary statement necklace and fashion inspiration for many was Jackie Kennedy and her classic pearl strand. Jackie in her pearls is an image that captured the attention of jewelry lovers not only across the country, but around the world.

Fashion icons or former Wixon employees modeling their favorite statement necklaces?

Today’s statement necklaces pull inspiration from many different eras, yet they all have one thing in common. Their big bold style is attention grabbing glamour at its finest. From chunky diamond encrusted chains, to rich and royal sapphire suites, there is a statement necklace for every person and every fashion point-of-view.

There are a few simple guidelines to follow with these necklaces to help make your sparkling statement a success. One of the most important details is that the necklace should be the main event of any ensemble. The more elaborate the piece, the simpler the attire. With a bevy of wardrobe basics, even the most outrageously ornate necklace can be worn daily either dressed up or down.

With so many gorgeous options available, in a variety of styles, you’re sure to find a piece that speaks to you. A collection can be built to include a stunning diamond collar, a suite of colored gems, big and bold layered pearls or even a simple oversized chunky gold chain. Each style has its own personality, and depending on the wearer, the mood or the day will have a place in any wardrobe. When wearing bolder pieces, it’s important to keep the accompanying accessories a bit more reserved. Classic diamond studs, a beautiful watch or a timeless tennis bracelet will compliment the statement necklace without stealing the show.

Statement necklaces are here to stay. As an integral part of daily fashion, they are being featured dressed up or dressed down. With a multitude of styles to choose from, there is a perfect piece for everyone and every occasion. Unlike other jewelry, these necklaces have inspired and united women to make sparkling silent statements where personality and self-expression reign supreme.

The only question that remains is, what will your piece say?

Introducing Greenery

greenery

The start of each new year brings a renewed sense of excitement for what’s to come in the months ahead, and an anticipation for the new trends that will emerge. Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017 embodies that excitement with it’s lively hue.

Pantone is the global authority on color trends, and since 2000, they have declared a color of the year that highlights and expresses the mood for the upcoming year. These yearly announcements are a reflection of the world around us and provide  a sense of what’s happening in the global cultures of fashion and design.

Contrary to what you might think, the color experts at Pantone aren’t picking these colors out of thin air. Pantone’s Leatrice Eiseman explains that their team spends the year taking note of the up-and-coming trends from around the world. Feeling a global resurgence in the desire to reconnect with nature, the team at Pantone selected Greenery as the Color of the Year for 2017. Greenery reminds us of the first days of Spring when the world feels fresh and new, making it the perfect color to reinvent yourself in the year to come.

Pantone’s video for the 2017 Color of the Year gracefully transitions from 2016’s Rose Quartz and Serenity to showcasing Greenery in all its vibrant glory. This clever video brings Greenery to life by demonstrating the numerous ways we incorporate color into our daily lives.

Out of this World Color

Whether it be a bold new blouse, fun pair of heels or amazing piece of jewelry, each season brings the opportunity to reinvent yourself with color. If there is one gem that sums up Greenery perfectly, it has to be Peridot. While Peridot is one of the few gemstones that exist in only one color, it’s signature hue can range from a yellow-green to olive. While traditionally formed deep within the earth and brought to the surface through volcanic activity, Peridot crystals have also been found in ancient meteorites dating 4.5 billion years old. You aren’t likely to see extraterrestrial Peridot available in jewelry however, as it is extremely rare. Today, most of these gemstones come from Arizona but are also found in China, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

This 7.66-carat Burmese Peridot ring is simply electric when the caught in the sun. It’s no wonder ancient Egyptians associated Peridot with light, calling it the “gem of the sun.”

Wixon Custom Peridot and Diamond Earrings

The unique shape and cut of these Burmese Peridot earrings offer a spectacular green sparkling in the light. These beautiful Wixon Custom earrings are truly one of a kind!

Take a Cue From Mother Nature

Described as “nature’s neutral,” this zesty green hue is versatile enough to complement a range of colors. Take a look at some of Pantone’s suggested pairings for how to incorporate Greenery into your wardrobe throughout the seasons. Whether your style trends towards intense citrus hues, muted earth tones, or soothing pastels, you’ll find that Peridot will be at home in your jewelry collection.

Color Me Happy

ColorMeHappy3

In recent seasons the fashion world has rediscovered color and the confident, feel-good femininity that it brings. This has made colored gemstone jewelry an essential component for every wardrobe. Wearing colored gemstones makes a statement. Whether it is baroque pearls, beads of tourmalines, tumbled stones, or cabochons these pieces offer a three dimensional quality.

Beyond complementing apparel, the colors of gems conjure emotions. The serenity of blue. The passion of pinks and reds. The vitality of green. Mix them together and create a wonderful confection of gemstones! Each gem has its own energy, spirit, and resonance.

Bead Necklaces2Did you know?

Archaeologists tell us that people have made beads for at least 30,000 years. The earliest beads were made from natural materials, such as bone, shell, and stone. Functioning as amulets for good fortune and adornment, they are also known to be one of earliest forms of trade.

The Allure of Color

AllureOfColor3The magic and beauty of colored gemstones is something we love at Wixon Jewelers. For colored gem enthusiasts, deep passionate red rubies, striking green emeralds, and cool blue lagoon tourmalines are only the starting point into a world of captivating color.

Much like an important statement purse, or your favorite pair of red heels, a signature gemstone speaks volumes. It can perfectly express and represent your true self. After all, how many pairs of diamond studs does one need?

It’s hard to pinpoint what draws someone to a particular colored gem, as one selects the piece based on their personal love affair with it. The options, gems and colors are limitless! Begin by investing in one signature piece of color before building the rest of the collection. This piece may be a ring, necklace or earrings. It’s one striking piece that leaves an indelible impression. Depending on eye, hair and skin color, different gems may look better on different individuals. That being said, choose what speaks to you!

Our passion for colored gems has never waned. Dan and Hope are always finding new, exotic gems as well as extraordinary versions of the classics. Come see for yourself the incredible allure of colored gemstones!
