Hope's Favorites

Food For Thought...February is the month of romance.. When was the last time you did something really romantic for your spouse/significant other? Romance is a two way street, so get on the road. Leave a note on the steering wheel in their car with something as simple as "I just wanted to tell you how much I love you" or a top 5 reasons I love you list!" If you do this periodically, chances are your moments of romance will inspire them to be romantic too!

Tips

When traveling I recommend a few tips...

  • When I want to be discreet and not draw attention to my jewelry, I turn my rings around so the diamonds or gemstones are facing the palm of my hand. This keeps my jewelry hidden from wrongful eyes.
  • Place your necklace chain in a small zip lock bag, close the bag around the clasp leaving them hanging out the top (view image) this will keep the necklace chain from becoming tangled.
  • At most drugstores you can purchase a box of alcohol prep pads (view image). Throw a few of these in your travel bag (no liquids to carry) Open pack and wipe down the diamonds and gemstones to remove fingerprints, oils, lotions, germs, etc.
Questions

Q) I’m shopping for a color gemstone piece of jewelry, what is your recommendation to finding the right one?

A) Go BIG, the most common mistake people make is choosing a gemstone that is too small. Start by looking at the biggest gemstone for your budget and keep in mind the color gemstone should make a statements so be sure any side stones only enhance the gemstone and don’t distract from the boldness of the color.

Q) Can I purchase a steel watch if my other jewelry is yellow gold – is it ok to mix-n-match metals?

A) Yes, absolutely! You can wear yellow gold with white gold, steel or platinum. As long as you’re wearing pieces that have the same overall feel – for example you shouldn’t wear a casual watch with a bold diamond necklace. You can wear yellow jewelry with a steel watch, or your favorite yellow gold and diamond pendant with your a white gold bracelet.

Trends

Red Carpet Trends - At the 2009 Golden Globes, the stars weren't the only thing shining - their jewelry stole the show. The open neckline of Beyonce's gown provided the perfect setting for her stunning collar style diamond necklace. Christina Applegate proved that a diamond floral necklace is the ultimate feminine accessory. Elizabeth Banks One of the night's big winners wore a bold piece that added major interest to her look.

No latest fashion is complete without the addition of jewelry, and the spring 2009 jewelry trends show that pieces are bold and bright, just like the fashion colors of the season.

Geometric shapes dominate as well as multi-strand necklaces. Bring out the biggest pieces you can find.

Rings with several different colored gemstones are fashionable for this spring, too.
