Oscars 2016: Red Carpet Jewelry

The stars always shine on the red carpet, and the 88th annual Academy Awards were no exception! It’s hard to choose a favorite, as this award season brought an abundance of stunning designer gowns and custom jewelry. No matter your style, you can count on Hollywood to help find inspiration for your next signature piece. Here are some tips for how to get an award winning look of your own.

Sophie Turner

Sophie was absolutely stunning in her eco-friendly gown by Galvan. The desert sage color of her gown perfectly matched her eyes and tsavorite Tiffany & Co. earrings. A modern diamond necklace and ring, also by Tiffany, completed the look. Our double strand diamond riviera necklace and cushion cut green toumaline earrings will add red carpet glamour to your next evening out.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett was a vision in an ethereal Armani gown and nature inspired Tiffany and Co. jewels. Try our diamond feather earrings or rose gold star fish pendant to bring out your own natural beauty.

Tina Fey

Tina wore a purple strapless Versace gown, adorned with a bold sapphire and diamond Bulgari necklace and white gold vintage ring. Get a similar look with our custom tanzanite collar necklace and vintage Edwardian diamond ring.

Tina Fey

Brie Larson & Olivia Wilde

Brie Larson may have won best actress, but she also won our hearts with her elegant ensemble. Diamond and pearl earrings by Japanese designer Niwaka were an delicate addition to her flowing royal blue Gucci gown. Olivia Wilde wowed in a pearl Edwardian choker by Neil Lane and pearl and diamond earrings. Pearls come in a range of breathtaking and unique styles and colors, far from the standard pearl strands you may be used to. You really need to see them for yourself!

La La Anthony

TV personality La La Anthony was seen wearing black and white diamond jewelry by Le Vian to the Ninth Annual Women In Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party. Pairing black and white is a classic combination that has been gaining popularity in jewelry trends. You can get the look with our black sapphire & diamond earrings or go big with all diamonds in our black & white diamond hoops.

Jane Wu

Actress and producer Jane Wu was flawless in a glittering black gown, accented with a beautifully interwoven Le Vian diamond ring. Similar intricate ring designs were seen on both Bar Paly and Kate Beckinsale. You can get a similar feel with our intertwined diamond ropes band or 7-row black and white diamond band.

Steve Carell

Steve Carell chose a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual to complete his look. Steve can’t keep his eyes off the black dial and striking highly-polished accents, and neither will you when you get this masterpiece on your own wrist.

Tom McCarthy

Tom McCarthy, one of the screenwriters for Spotlight, the film that won best picture, was seen wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic True Second. The Geophysic’s subtle design and excellent precision ensure you’ll be wearing this timeless watch for years to come.

Brian d’Arcy James

Brian d’Arcy James, who starred in Spotlight, walked the red carpet in a Clifton 10057. The blue dial moonphase and 1950s inspired design of this Baume & Mercier perfectly complemented his classic style.

Red Carpet Jewelry at the 2016 Grammy Awards

Musicians are used to commanding center stage, and award-worthy looks are a must when they hit the red carpet. Fashion at the Grammys is truly spectacular, not only do you get fantastic red carpet looks, but the wardrobe changes for performances are always something to see. This year was all about big performances, big personalities and big sparkle.

The biggest trends this year were big diamonds, subtle makeup and bare necks. Unlike the Golden Globes where statement necklaces stole the show, the Grammys featured glittering earrings and spectacular stacked rings and bracelets.

Fabulous Sparkle

There was no shortage of fantastic diamond drop earrings. Ariana Grande was absolutely stunning in a scarlet red Romona Keveza gown. With Niwaka earrings, rings and wide bracelet, Ariana was the picture of glamour. Country singer Cam’s vivid yellow feathery dress by Georges Chakra went perfectly with her lively blonde curls. She elevated the playful sophistication with eye-catching oval drop diamond earrings. Anna Kendrick chose Harry Kotlar diamond earrings, as well as a diamond ring and bracelet to accent her shimmering black Emanuel Ungaro gown.

Black & White Diamonds

Black diamonds are a big fashion trend, and one that stars like Janelle Monáe and Alessandra Ambrosio embraced wholeheartedly. True to her signature style, Janelle opted for a bold black and white dress from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Couture Collection. The balance of black and white even extended to her Pasquale Bruni Earrings and Carrera y Carrera and Levian Rings. Alessandra proved you don’t need to be a musician to be rock-star chic in an edgy Versace gown, sleek hair and smoky eyes. She paired ultra long and dangly earrings with Noudar black diamond finger rings to complete the look.

Timeless Classics

Diamond studs adorned the ears of stars from Ellie Goulding to Carrie Underwood, but it was Chrissy Teigen’s colossal 20-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamonds that stole the show. Chrissy glowed in her form fitting white Yousef Al-Jasmi gown and bejeweled cape. Selena Gomez sparkled in a sultry, midnight blue, sequined gown by Calvin Klein. Her loose flowing hair would have hidden smaller stud earrings, making the large diamond hoops by Norman Silverman an ideal choice. The night wouldn’t be complete without spectacular diamond rings. And what’s better than one ring? How about one for every finger? From Ariana Grande to Zendaya, Demi Lovato to Elle King, matching and stacking rings was a huge trend this year.

Jewelry at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards

Jewelry at the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards

Hollywood’s 2016 awards season started off with a bang at the 73rd annual Golden Globes. Streamlined silhouettes and bold jewel-tones ruled the red carpet dresses, but statement necklaces took center stage. Not to be outdone by the glitz and glamour of over-the-top diamond jewelry, many of this year’s looks balanced the bold gowns with fabulous color gemstones. Here are some of our favorite trends from this year:

Diamond Collars

Diamond Collars

A glittering Chopard collar gives a classic sophistication to Jennifer Lawrence’s modern, scarlet-red Dior gown. The essence of 1940s Hollywood glamour, Jennifer Lopez amplified her Giambattista Valli gown with 200 carats of Harry Winston diamonds. The modest silhouette is given a fun twist with its bold canary-yellow color and layering of the cascading drop diamond necklace and diamond wreath necklace. Emmy Rossum also dazzled with diamonds in another classic yet modern look. Rossum’s sleek strapless red Armani Privé gown was perfectly accented with an asymmetrical Van Cleef & Arpels diamond collar necklace.

Bohemian Chic

Vintage and bohemian style chokers offered a stunning alternative to the jaw-dropping diamond collars. Leslie Mann was sweet and feminine in her rose colored Monique Lhuillier gown, but it was her accessories that got our attention. With a cascade of opals and tourmalines down her back, the gemstone choker by Irene Neuwirth was just as magnificent coming as it was going. Olivia Wilde wowed with a 70s inspired look. The loose waves of her hair worked beautifully with the sequined Michael Kors gown and matching carnelian and diamond Bulgari Heritage Collection choker. Maura Tierney had an understated elegance with a subdued color-blocked dress, clean makeup and simple top-knot. Tierney elevated her look with a vintage citrine, gold, and black rhodium torque necklace from Fred Leighton.

Color Gemstone Rings

Show-Stopping Color

Whether classic or ultra unique, over the top color gemstone rings were another favorite this year. Sparkling from head to toe, Julianne Moore looked like she stepped right out of the ocean with her sequined Tom Ford gown and unique Caribbean blue Chopard ring featuring 18.32 carats of Paraiba tourmalines. Sophia Bush was another star to bring back old Hollywood glamour with her classic black Narciso Rodriquez gown. Sleek hair, crimson lips and a perfectly matched Martin Katz ruby cocktail ring completed her look.

Going Green

This may have been the year of the statement necklace, but awe inspiring accessories didn’t stop there. Jamie Alexander made us green with envy in an emerald green Art Deco print gown by Genny and matching Lorraine Schwartz emerald jewels. You couldn’t miss Taraji P Henson’s 107-carat cushion-cut emerald earrings by Kimberly McDonald. Suspended by a shimmering chain of diamonds, these giants were free to dance, giving them a light and playful look despite their size.

Evening Pearls

Evening Pearls

Pearls are making a comeback as a high fashion trend for all ages. Jane Fonda was keeping it classy in a dramatic Yves Saint Laurent Coutur gown, paired with stunning Chopard pearls. Zendaya accented her tiered brocade Marchesa gown with stunning Yoko London earrings, dripping with Tahitian pearls and black diamonds set in black rhodium. One thing we can say, these aren’t your grandmother’s pearls!

Dramatic Drops

Ultra long drop earrings offered a unique sparkle and movement with a light airy feel. Cate Blanchett was a vision in pale pink with her fringe and lace Givenchy Haute Couture gown and beautifully matching pearl tassel earrings by Tiffany & Co. Saoirse Ronan’s look was young and elegant in a white caped gown by Saint Laurent and delicate diamond Chopard earrings.

Red Carpet Jewelry at the 2014 Academy Awards

Red Carpet Jewelry at the 86th Academy Awards

This year’s Academy Awards were designed to dazzle all evening long, from the always golden Oscar statues to the incredible celebrity jewelry and fashion! The most glamorous event of the award season certainly did not disappoint. The diamonds, gems, gold and jewels on display left the audience blinded by beauty to say the least. Bold choices, complex design and interesting details transformed necklaces, earrings and rings into wearable art.

There were many actresses that stood out, but several really hit the mark with their signature jewelry…

Lupita Nyong’o embraced this year’s bold gold trend from top to bottom with a specialty gold and diamond headband, a vintage yellow gold snake bracelet, yellow gold and rose cut crescent earrings and a yellow gold signature frog ring. Gold is making its way back in a big and bold way, and I love how she embraced the warm hue of the metal as a stark contrast to her icy blue gown. We will easily see more gold choices featured prominently in fashion and fine jewelry through the remainder of the year.

Amy Adam’s midnight-hued gown provided the perfect contrast to her multi-color drop earrings; dark blue lapis and turquoise surrounded a pear shape rhodochrosite and diamonds. Mixing and matching different colors of gems creates a stunning visual interest on the wearer. Additionally, draped across her wrist was a tennis bracelet consisting entirely of yellow diamonds. It was the perfect blend of traditional, yet unique.

Margot Robbie beautifully showcased a 55 carat diamond riveria necklace that classically accentuated her black evening gown.  She complimented the look with timeless diamond studs. Although it wasn’t the most innovative look, she represented a style that will remain simply gorgeous for generations.

Jennifer Lawrence repeated an interesting trend that here in Minnesota we don’t often get the chance to showcase.  For two years in a row, she’s sported a backlace! The necklace itself fits tight against the neck, and then drapes as far down the back as one would like. Last year Anne Hathaway wore a shorter back necklace that truly just looked like a necklace flipped around.  Jennifer Lawrence has had better success with the graceful draping of a longer diamond chain. This year her backlace featured over 100 carats of diamonds and was valued at $2 million dollars. She’s quickly making this her signature go-to look.

Cate Blanchett was a personal favorite. Her opal earrings were jaw dropping and original. Opals themselves tend to be more rare and valuable as Black Opals instead of white like the pair she wore.  However, the complex floral pattern featuring each Opal framed by a diamond halo was simply stunning! Unique and incomparable in style, she wore these as homage to her homeland and brought the beauty of Opals to millions around the world.

Jessica Biel enthusiastically wore an eclectic ensemble of diamonds and Aquamarine. Her left wrist featured not only her substantial wedding ring, but a pairing of two multi-row wide diamond bracelets. Not do be outdone; her right wrist featured an incredible diamond and Aquamarine bow cuff bracelet. Aquamarine is typically seen in a much lighter color, so the intense blue of the bracelet was especially extraordinary.  Complimenting the bracelet, were diamond and Aquamarine drop earrings and finishing off her look an impressive diamond statement necklace.  Who says there is such a thing as too many jewels?!

“While watching the Emmy Awards, I was in complete awe of the celebrities’ jewelry. As someone who sees pieces like these often, I have to ask, do you have a favorite look from the night?”

-Kerri N. | Des Moines, IA

The Emmy Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 22 and they brought out plenty of stylish looks as stars dressed their best. Amongst the varieties of gowns and hairstyles, there were some popular jewelry trends and bold, statement pieces of jewelry. From Emeralds to diamonds, each star chose the gemstone that best fit their style. Here are a few great looks from Hollywood’s most glamorous night, including some of my favorites!

By far my favorite was the beautiful incorporation of emerald in fashion designs as well as into jewelry. Yes, the Pantone Color of the Year was well represented by many gorgeous green dresses, but it’s the gem itself that was the real show stopper! Sarah Hyland, Christina Hendricks, and Mayim Bialik looked lovely in their emerald earrings.

For me, it doesn’t get any better than the jaw-dropping emerald and diamond ensemble worn by Maria Menounos.

I was also pleased to see that the cocktail ring well represented on Sunday night. Maybe some of the stars read my column a couple weeks back about trends in cocktail rings? Ha, wishful thinking I guess. Zooey Deschanel sported this big bold Tourmaline ring on her middle finger that matched her ice-blue dress perfectly. Allison Williams looked perfectly polished in gold jewelry that remained simple letting her light pink topaz ring dazzle us all.

Who says less is more? More IS more… just look at Sofia Vergara. She had by far the most talked about look of the evening, and for good reason! She flaunted over seven million dollars in jewels including a 40-carat Emerald cocktail ring, an incredible 21-carat rose cut diamond ring, and drop earrings of over 100 carats of Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires… oh my!

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend if you ask Carrie Underwood. The red carpet welcomed Carrie Underwood and her 152 carats of flawless diamonds. Her ensemble included a one of a kind necklace, matching earrings and pear shape diamond ring totaling over $25 million.

Jewelry at the 63rd Emmy Awards

Once again the stars walked the red carpet at this Sunday’s 63rd Emmy Awards and though red seemed to be the “hot” color for gowns, big & bold was the theme for the jewelry.

Five months after giving birth, Jane Krakowski dazzled in a silver lamé J. Mendel gown and large dangling ruby earrings.
